Or as I like to call it, Neunemberger Castle. Haha, crazy long German words...
Neuschwanstein Castle is the castle that Disney modelled Sleeping Beauty's Castle after (you can sort of see the resembelence...). The castle is located in Germany, so Pav (Polish praktikant that works in Adrienn's office) was nice enough to drive us there in his car last Saturday. The other's who went were Lukasz (another Polish praktikant), Adrienn, Vance and me.
We got up pretty early, since it's about a 3 hour drive. It actually took longer to get there, since there was some bad traffic (and we stopped for some food breaks).
Yay, we found the castle!! Time to go home...
When we got to the town we bought tickets for a tour (the only way you can go inside the castle) and then had some time to check out souvineer shops. I bought some postcards...though it was a little hard finding ones that hadn't been severely doctored with photoshop.
We walked up to the castle (about half an hour walk) and marvelled at the beauty of the surrounding scenery. The whole town is tucked away in some mountains, and there's another castle nearby making it a cool looking area.
The castle tour was about half an hour, and semi-informative. We learnt about King Ludwig, who died before the castle could ever be completed (was it muuuurrrrrder?!?!?!?). Only 16 or the 60 rooms were finished...they were quite impressive though. Everything seemed very new (the castle is only 120 years old....young...for a castle that is), and had a whimsical quality to it. All the walls were decorated with scenes from stories and fairy tales, I felt like I kinda was in Cindrella's castle. Unfortunatly we couldn't take any pictures inside, but there's some on the link above if you want to see what it's like.
After the castle we got kabob's (mmmm, it's been awhile...), stocked up on cheap German liquor (yay!) and drove home. It was a fun outing!
