Jenny (and Vance) arranged for us to take a tour of Frey, a chocolate company that supplies all the chocolate for Migro's (the local supermarket that we all know and love). A huge group of us all took last tuesday morning off work and went to the factory. The tour was really great, and we even got all the free chocolate we could eat (something that you really shouldn't say to a poor, starving praktikant, haha).
First we had a nice welcome session with delicious, creamy hot chocolate, then watched a informative (though, very cheesey) video about the process of chocolate making. Next it was time for the actual tour, so we all had to suit up (to keep the factory clean), haha, we looked pretty funny.
The tour itself was really cool...I liked watching the various machines in sequence to create all the products. At the factory they go all the way from the raw cocoa beans to the finished, packaged process, so we got to see all the boxing and wrapping machines too (haha, they are fun to watch....awww, I'm a geek). We learnt about the different kinds of chocolate, and how it's made into differnt products.
Then of course there was the 5 tasting staations throuought the tour... we could have as much as we wanted but not take any (darn...). I can't really consume that much chocolate, but I still had lots....everyone else had even more I think. On the way home everyone was wired off the sugar, and feeling pretty sick, haha. There was a store at the end with discounted chocolate, I made sure to buy lots!!
